More experimentation for IndyCar Ovals

After Texas experimented with twin racse last year and have since gone back to a one-race format, it’s time for another oval track to experiment with something new.

This year’s Iowa race will include three heat races in lieu of a qualifying session. One heat will set the top 10, another the inside row from 11th on, and the third setting the outside row from 12th back. Starting positions for the heats will be set by practice speeds.

If it goes well, IndyCar will consider it to become the new qualifying procedure for the 2013 season.
